As former Gov. Howard Dean always says... you get a "C" for just voting. Democracy is about more than voting. Winning elections is about more than voting.
We win by volunteering.
What we need help with STAT is calling our supporters to remind THEM to vote.

Big news: our campaign announced yesterday that we've raised over $4 million in our effort to preserve marriage equality and defeat Question 1. Unfortunately, but somewhat expectedly, Yes on 1 filed their fundraising report and raised $1.4 million in just 20 days. Over $1.1 million of that came from National Organization for Marriage, a radical anti-equality group from New Jersey.

Just in case you haven't seen the video of Philip Spooner testifying at the legislative hearing this past May, I'm providing the video for you again. This short clip of Mr. Spooner's testimony in favor of Maine's marriage equality law took place in front of an overflowing crowd at the State Capital this spring. It was extremely moving then and it still is now, nearly 6 months later.

It's official. The latest poll (link to poll) shows us in a dead heat-- 48% of Maine voters will vote NO, 48% yes, and 4% are undecided. This proves what we've always known -- this referendum will be won by the campaign with the best Get Out the Vote program.

I'm sure you've heard the latest poll numbers by now. With just 15 days left until the election, NO on 1 has a razor-thin lead in the race for marriage equality. But here's the catch: NO on 1 voters are less likely to vote than our opponents' supporters. That means that we must talk to each and every one of our supporters over the next two weeks and urge them to vote NO on 1 early-- we can't afford to leave any NO votes behind. Can you join us for just a few hours to help in our massive Get Out The Early Vote effort?

It's been an incredible weekend for No on 1. Yesterday we saw that the Bangor Daily News endorsed us. It wasn't something we were expecting, and something that was very exciting! And then today we found out that the Maine Sunday Telegram/Portland Press Herald also endorsed us. Again, not something we were sure of. Maine's two largest newspapers have taken a stand in telling Maine voters to vote No on 1 this November.

As you've probably heard by now, Janet Mills, Maine's Attorney General, has finished her report on whether or not the same-sex marriage law would have any impact on schools. Her findings were concrete, and what we've been saying all along.

We appreciate all of the wonderful hard work our supporters have done for our campaign. It's been noted that Yes on 1 signs have been stolen. This information showed up on their facebook page as well as in the Bangor Daily News. We've also heard reports from our supporters that their "NO on 1" signs have been stolen as well, but we really need to emphasize that such activities do not benefit the campaign and in fact only cause us harm. Please be respectful of all views and opinions. Also, please know that stealing signs is illegal and the fines for doing so are up to $250 per sign. The best support you can give us is volunteering and voting early.

I was legally married to my partner in the great state of Vermont on September 1st of this year. While on the honeymoon to the great state of Maine, I learned that Marriage Equality was under attack. After experiencing my own wedding, I decided to stay in Maine and join the volunteer team and do whatever I can to protect Marriage for all Maine Families.

As of today we have 19 days until Election Day. That means we have less than three weeks to talk to as many voters as possible and encourage them to vote early. Starting now, you can go to your city or town hall and vote early. Or, you can request an absentee ballot online. Either way, it only takes a few minutes.

If you are within driving distance to Maine, consider making a trip to Maine and help us protect Marriage Equality. In just 19 days Maine will decide the direction for the national marriage equality movement. With a dead heat in the polls, this vote may come down to just a few votes. When the election results come in, can you risk not doing all you can to protect Maine's Marriage Equality.

A new public poll from Democracy Corps was released yesterday, showing No on 1 with a slight lead of 50% to 41%, a significant jump from the Daily Kos poll the other week that showed our opposition leading 48% to 46%. The new numbers are encouraging, but it's that 9% of voters that are still undecided that will determine this race.

As you may have heard, the Roman Catholic diocese of Portland held a statewide second collection this past weekend to raise money for Stand for Marriage Maine. They also held their closed door rally last night while we held the first of our Community Conversation series in Augusta. I want you all to know that there are many Catholics and people from other faiths and traditions coming together in support of marriage equality.
